Presencia de los hombres en redes de Investigación de género en el ámbito de comunicación en España

El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer la productividad y colaboración científica de los autores que han publicado trabajos sobre género en las revistas españolas de comunicación, prestando especial atención al rol desempeñado por los hombres. Se ha analizado la red de citaciones con el fin de identificar la red de investigadores y la participación de los hombres en la misma. La hipótesis de la que se parte es que los hombres tienen un papel secundario en las comunidades científicas que investigan sobre género en el área de comunicación. Se aplican metodologías procedentes del análisis de redes sociales. La información extraída ha sido analizada con el programa Ucinet. Se comprueba que los hombres tienen un rol marginal en la red y que las mujeres tienden a citar a otras mujeres en sus publicaciones.The purpose of this paper is to learn about the scientific productivity and collaboration of authors who have published papers on gender in Spanish communication journals by paying special attention to the role played by men. The citation network was analysed in order to identify the researchers network and the participation of men therein. The hypotesis put forward is that men have a secondary role in scientific communities that research gender in the communication field. Methodologies from the analysis of social network were applied. The information extracted was analysed using Ucinet software. It was confirmed that men have a marginal role in the network and that women tend to cite other women in their publication

Spanish Communication Academia: Scientific Productivity vs. Social Activity

At a time when academic activity in the area of communication is principally assessed by the impact of scientific journals, the scientific media and the scientific productivity of researchers, the question arises as to whether social factors condition scientific activity as much as these objective elements. This investigation analyzes the influence of scientific productivity and social activity in the area of communication. We identify a social network of researchers from a compilation of doctoral theses in communication and calculate the scientific production of 180 of the most active researchers who sit on doctoral committees. Social network analysis is then used to study the relations that are formed on these doctoral thesis committees. The results suggest that social factors, rather than individual scientific productivity, positively influence such a key academic and scientific activity as the award of doctoral degrees. Our conclusions point to a disconnection between scientific productivity and the international scope of researchers and their role in the social network. Nevertheless, the consequences of this situation are tempered by the nonhierarchical structure of relations between communication scientists

The Emergence of Native Podcasts in Journalism: Editorial Strategies and Business Opportunities in Latin America

This article analyses the state of the art of podcasting in the new digital landscape as well as the structures, editorial strategies, and business models of native podcasts launched in Latin America over the last few years. To this end, a multiple case study has been made to examine the way new digital outlets are using audio content. This qualitative research is made up of a variety of approaches, such as interviews, online surveys of podcasters, as well as the collection and analysis of secondary data. A specific aim of this comparative study was to include a sample of podcasts produced by thirteen emerging media platforms from eight countries registered in the directory of digital natives conducted by SembraMedia (https://www.sembramedia.org). This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the diversity and quality of Spanish language content by helping digital media entrepreneurs become more sustainable and successful. Results of this exploratory study reveal that native podcasting in Spanish is still expanding and that where the new media are small in scale, they are more oriented to the full exploitation of the narrative and innovative possibilities of this audio format and do not have responding to their target audiences’ needs as their main priority. These new media are finding different ways to become monetised (mainly content production for clients, sponsored content, sponsorship, consulting services, and advertising) and to make a profit

Una perspectiva sobre la investigación en la Universidad de Sevilla

Un estudio sobre la investigación que se lleva a cabo en la Universidad de Sevilla admite distintos enfoques y sólo una consideración del conjunto de ellos nos puede dar una representación aproximada del fenómeno. Aquí se intenta una visión pretendidamente parcial, pero que recoja aspectos que otros dejan pasar por alto, y esto, mediante algunos mecanismos de óptica. Por un lado, el enfoque, que en este caso se centra en la investigación conjunta entre la universidad y las empresas y organismos públicos. Por otro, la perspectiva o punto de mira, que aquí será el de los profesores de la Universidad de Sevilla. Por último, la percepción, que como tal, es un elemento subjetivo y que tiene connotaciones cualitativas y valorativas

Los bárbaros del suroeste peninsular: una hipótesis.

Desde el principio de los estudios etnoarqueológicos hasta prácticamente el presente actual, se ha mantenido la hipótesis de que los grupos asentados en el suroeste peninsular correspondían a unos factores fijos: lengua, cultura material, estructura social, etc. Sin embargo, la aparición de nuevas teorías antropológicas, como la Teoría Politética, hacen que esta hipótesis se replantee hacia modelos más flexibles y permeables en los que se entremezclan modelos identitarios, tales como jerarquía, sexo o costumbres, dando lugar a un replanteamiento de los modelos económicos de algunos asentamientos situados en el suroeste de la península ibérica
